Gearing Up for a New Season: Adventures Await in 2025
We’ve passed the New Year, and the 2025 season is about to begin. After a few months of darkness and cold, with the bike resting idle in the garage, it finally feels like it’s time to start planning new adventures.
Last season ended rather abruptly. At the end of September, I participated in a roadbook rally. On the second day, a small misjudgment occurred – I got a bit too eager and went full throttle straight through a road barrier. Fortunately, the barrier was unlocked, which saved me from a much worse accident. The damage was “only” a smashed headlight and a slightly elevated pulse for a few minutes. Without a functioning headlight, the motorcycle wasn’t just illegal to ride; it also felt incomplete – and that’s not something I can live with.
After quite a bit of searching, I managed to find a new headlight at a motorcycle scrapyard, for a reasonable price and in really good condition. Once it was mounted and ready, the cold had already started creeping in, and then winter arrived in full force with snow and frost. The Christmas and New Year holidays also filled the calendar, so the bike has rested much longer than I would have liked.
But now we’re finally here – on the threshold of a new season. Last year was eventful, to say the least. I spent many nights in wind shelters, ventured into deep caves, participated in a scavenger hunt in Skåne, tackled a roadbook rally in Småland, and rode all the way to Nordkapp and back. Even though the journey to Nordkapp was fraught with challenges, it’s something I’ll never forget. Standing there at Europe’s northernmost point, with the wind whipping and the feeling of having made it there on two wheels, was indescribable. In total, I covered about 12,000 kilometers (7,500 miles) on the bike last year.
But after all the events of last year, I’ve hit a bit of a slump. What should I do this year?
That’s the big question. Without a clear plan, I find it easy to lose energy and motivation.
My son has shown interest in getting a motorcycle license, and it feels like a fantastic opportunity to share my passion with him. I’m considering helping him find a good bike to practice on, and hopefully, we can go on a few rides together. Seeing him experience the freedom of two wheels would be a dream.
Besides that, I’m leaning towards exploring new sections of TET Sweden. Some routes have been revised, and new stages have been added, which feels exciting. It would be fun to spend a week or two exploring them. Norway is also calling me – the winding roads and dramatic landscapes are hard to resist. Perhaps I can plan a route that combines new segments in Sweden with a detour into Norway.
And why stop there? Europe is also open. It would be exciting to head south and explore parts of the continent I haven’t yet set foot – or wheel – on. The thought of cruising through the Alps or riding along the Mediterranean coast feels like a dream I’d love to make a reality.
As I said, the ideas are plenty, and that’s just how I want it. The motorcycle is ready, and so am I. This is going to be a year filled with adventures – whether they take place close to home or far beyond the horizon. ✌️
